Shoreland Lutheran High School
Parents: Brian and Chantelle Moore
Most memorable high school moment: I’ve made a lot of amazing memories throughout my four years here at Shoreland Lutheran High School; however, one of the most memorable moments I’ve had occurred one day after a chapel service. Over the summer, our campus minister, Pastor Brug, was diagnosed with brain cancer. As part of my role on National Honor Society, I helped to organize a benefit in order to help the Brug family offset the inevitably expensive medical costs of Pastor’s treatment. After the benefit was complete and the total money was added up, we were able to write Pastor Brug a check for some $7,000. It was such an amazing moment to see Pastor Brug receive the check and to just know that I had some role in helping such an amazing man in his time of need.
Most influential teacher: Mr. Paul Huebner and Mrs. Lisa Wasser
Class taught: Mr. Huebner teaches AP Calculus and Mrs. Wasser teaches AP Literature and Composition
Please explain why: Simply put, Mr. Huebner and Mrs. Wasser are outstanding teachers and I can honestly say that the both of them have changed my life for the better. These two have truly showed me what it means to be a hardworking young student and the lessons they have taught me I will carry for a lifetime. I’ve been so blessed to have had class with them for so many years and I am so sad to say this is my last year with them. Through my many struggles, failures and successes, I know I can count on these two to help me through. Most importantly, I just want to make sure they know how grateful I am for them and the large amounts of time they have spent preparing me for life after high school. Such amazing teachers only come around once in a lifetime and I was fortunate enough to get two of them.
School activities/clubs: National Honor Society; Student Council, Student Ambassadors and SL Lights for my freshman and sophomore years.
School athletics: Track; boys soccer for freshmen and sophomore years
Honors, letters or awards: Class of 2019 salutatorian; Highest Honors all four years of high school; Student Achiever Award; selected for National Academy of Future Physicians and Medical Scientists Award of Excellence; nominated to be a Delegate at the Congress of Future Medical Leaders
Out-of-school activities/hobbies: On the rare occasions when I am not at school, I enjoy spending time with friends and family. I love playing sports outside with my brother, Gavin, and going on long bike rides with my dog, Duke. On the weekends, I spend my time working at my job at Waterfront Warehouse as a host.
College choice: Carthage College
Intended major/field of study: Biology
Role model: Mom (Chantelle Moore)
Three words that best describe my role model: Hardworking, generous, compassionate
What I hope to accomplish in my lifetime: Unlike many other students my age, I don’t have heroic dreams of discovering the cure for cancer or becoming filthy rich and famous. All I really want out of life is to make a positive impact in the lives of others. I’ve been influenced by so many amazing people in my life that all I can hope for is to be just like them and influence others. If I can have even a sliver of an impact on someone’s life that others have had on mine, I will consider myself more than accomplished.
