Film Review - Mary Poppins Returns

While drive-in movie fans continue to mourn the loss of the Keno Drive-In outdoor theater, there are still opportunities to watch movies outside this summer. And here’s a bonus: Admission is free!

The city of Kenosha (with Happenings Magazine), the Petrifying Springs Biergarten and the village of Twin Lakes are all hosting outdoor movie series this summer.

Here is a closer look at each series:

Friday Night Flicks

Location: Nash School, 6801 99th Ave. (except for the Aug. 2 screening, which is in Lincoln Park, 22nd Avenue and 71st Street)

Time: Movies are shown at dusk.

Dates/movies:

June 14 — The series kicks off with “Mary Poppins Returns.” Decades after her original visit, the magical nanny (played by Emily Blunt) returns to help the Banks siblings and Michael’s children through a difficult time in their lives.

June 28 — “The Lego Movie 2.” The battle to defeat the enemy and restore harmony to the Lego Universe takes Emmet, Lucy, Batman and the rest of their friends to far away, unexplored worlds that test their courage and creativity.

July 12 — “Goosebumps 2.” While collecting junk one day, best friends Sonny and Sam meet Slappy, a mischievous talking dummy from an unpublished “Goosebumps” book by R.L. Stine.

Aug. 2 — “Captain Marvel.” The superhero (played by Brie Larson) is an extraterrestrial Kree warrior who finds herself caught in the middle of an intergalactic battle between her people and the Skrulls.

Aug. 23 — “Shazam” We all have a superhero inside us — it just takes a bit of magic to bring it out. In 14 year-old Billy Batson’s case, all he needs to do is shout out one word to transform into the adult superhero Shazam (played by Zachary Levi).
