Memorial day Weekend is the traditional start of the summer season, and this year, it’s actually supposed to feel like summer this weekend.

Looking for two sure signs of summer in Kenosha County? The Petrifying Springs Biergarten and the two public beaches in Silver Lake and Paddock Lake will open for the summer season.

The grand opening of the Biergarten starts at 4 p.m. Friday (May 24). The event includes the “Blessing of the Maibock” at 5:30 p.m. by the Rev. Brit Windel of Day Break Church and the ceremonial keg tapping by County Executive Jim Kreuser.

The Grand Opening Weekend continues with a stein hosting competition at 3 p.m. Saturday and live music at 6 p.m. by The Squeezettes, performing their own brand of “modern polka.”

On Sunday, the Biergarten opens at noon and will feature a Bounce House and face painting, with live music at 6 p.m. by Alpine Blast.

To close out the holiday weekend, the venue opens at noon on Monday, again with a Bounce House. Live music on Monday features The Brothers Quinn, starting at 3 p.m.

The Biergarten, which operates under a lease agreement with Kenosha County Parks, is opening for its third season.

The Biergarten is located at Shelter No. 1, near the southern entrance to Petrifying Springs Park, 5555 Seventh St., and features indoor and outdoor seating, German-style food and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage options. For more details about hours, menu selections or activity schedules, visit www.petsbiergarten.com or the Biergarten’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/petsbiergarten.
