Enjoy Kenosha: Local events May 2-6, 2019

Enjoy these Kenosha area events and more this weekend:

n It’s May, which means the Southport Light Station Museum is open for a new season at 5117 Fourth Ave. At the free maritime museum, inside the keeper’s house, visitors can learn about local shipwrecks, lighthouse keepers, shipping, fishing and more. Also, visitors can climb the 1866 Southport Lighthouse. The fee to climb is $10 for adults and $5 for children 8 to 12 years old (you must be age 8 or older to climb.) Hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday-Saturday and noon to 4 p.m. Sunday through October. For more information, call 262-654-5770.

n Friday (May 3), enjoy First Fridays at the I-94 Visitor Information Center, I-94 and Highway 165. Stop by between noon and 3 p.m. for the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s free, fun, informative and tasty Open House. Visitors can meet the people behind some of our local attractions and businesses and pick up ideas of things to see and do in Kenosha and throughout Wisconsin. n Saturday, enjoy the Wisconsin Marathon. It starts at 7 a.m. near the Civil War Museum, at First Avenue and 54th Street. The public is encouraged to cheer on the participants, who have traveled to Kenosha from more than 30 states and five countries. Many local residents are running as well! The race includes a full marathon, half marathon and 5K, all taking place at this 11th annual event. For details, call 847-675-0200 (extension 210) or log on at www.wisconsinmarathon.com.

n Saturday, the Transparent Watercolor Society of America’s 43rd Annual National Juried Exhibition opens at the Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 First Ave. It’s on display through Aug. 4. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and noon to 5 p.m. Sunday. About 80 transparent watercolor paintings will be on display from some of the nation’s top transparent watercolor artists. Admission is free. For more information, call 262-653-4140.

n Starting Monday, enjoy Kenosha Tourism Week Free Days. On select days during National Travel & Tourism Week, a favorite local attraction is offering FREE admission or other freebies that would normally have a fee. It’s the Kenosha Area Convention & Visitors Bureau’s way of celebrating tourism’s positive impact in our community and helping YOU become a Tourist in Your Own Town!
