Enjoy Kenosha: Winter HarborMarket opens, other local events

Eco-Halloween Hike at Bong

Glowing pumpkins light up the trails for the Bong State Recreation Area’s Eco-Halloween Hike.

Enjoy these Kenosha area events and more this weekend:

Saturday (Oct. 19), visit the Kenosha Winter HarborMarket, open 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Kenosha Masonic Center, 115 56th St. The indoor season begins at a new location. You’ll find about 30 vendors featuring cheeses, artisan bakery goods, art, crafts, prepared foods and more each week through early May. Admission is free. Saturday night, enjoy the Kenosha History Center Chili Cook-Off, 6 to 9 p.m. Due to recent flooding at the Kenosha History Center, the event will be held at Parkway Chateau at the Brat Stop, Entrance C, 12304 75th St. Chili tasting will be from 6 p.m. until it’s gone. There will be 14 restaurants and fire departments participating, as well as a cash bar, a 50/50 raffle and live music. Participants will taste and vote for their favorite chili. Tickets are available at the door for $12. For more information, call 262-654-5770.

All day Saturday, enjoy the Mystery Mini-Con, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kenosha Public Museum, 5500 First Ave. Dress as your favorite caped crusader or super-sleuth for a special opening of the new temporary exhibit, “The History of Mystery.” Visitors can listen to presentations, meet with mystery artists and authors, and purchase artwork from vendors in the “artist alley.” This is a free event. Saturday night, enjoy the Eco-Halloween Hike at Richard Bong State Recreation Area (Shelter No. 1), 26313 Burlington Road. You are invited to meet some “Marvelous Mammals” at this non-scary, family event that’s held outdoors. Arrive between 6:30 and 8 p.m. to sign up for a half-hour hike. Enjoy jack-o’-lanterns, Halloween nature skits, fires, games and crafts. The fee is $2 per person (free for children under age 4), plus a vehicle admission sticker to enter Bong.
