St. Mary’s festival: Bella Cain, Yesterday’s Children perform

The summer season of church festivals continues Saturday and Sunday (July 27-28) with festivities outside St. Mary Catholic Church, 7307 40th Ave.

The festival is open 3 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday and noon to 9 p.m. Sunday.

Organizers call the event “a family friendly festival with live music, kids’ games, food, drink and fun.”

The “Win a Dream Raffle” features prizes of $5,000 and $3,000 in cash, a $1,500 Chicago getaway, an Apple iPad, a KitchenAid stand mixer and a propane patio heater.

Musical entertainment on Saturday features the popular regional country group Bella Cain from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. Festival organizers call the group “the Midwest’s hottest country band with a kick.”

Sunday starts with an Outdoor Mass at 11 a.m. “under the big tent.”

Sunday’s entertainment features the band Nouveau from 2:15 to 4:15 p.m. and Yesterday’s Children performing classic rock from 5:30 to 9 p.m.

Festival food includes bombers, hot dogs, brats, corn on the cob, fried cheese curds, loaded baked potatoes and cream puffs. Games include Bingo, mini golf, pull tabs, Chuck-O-Luck, a dunk tank, minnow races, a Kids’ Zone and “Raffle Mania.”

New this year: A “character meet and greet” with an Arabian Princess and an American Hero is 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday. (The characters have more than a passing resemblance to Disney’s Princess Jasmine and Captain America, but copyright issues prevent those names from being used.)

Returning this year: A free shuttle bus will run from Forest Park School, 6810 45th Ave., to the festival Saturday night from 5 to 11 p.m.
