It’s Awkward Moments Day ... though, sadly, for a lot of us, that is EVERY day!

The University of Wisconsin-Parkside’s Jazz Week kicks off tonight with a free performance by Adam Nussbaum’s “Leadbelly Project.” Nussbaum is “one of the finest drummers working today,” according to Jazz Week organizers. Nussbaum has recorded hundreds of tracks, including the Grammy-winning “Don’t Try This At Home.”7 p.m. in Bedford Concert Hall. Admission is free. The Big Read’s big list of community events continues tonight with “Paints and Pints” at Public Craft Brewing Co. Artist Kelly Witte hosts this activity. The group will be painting a scene inspired by the novel “Into the Beautiful North.” No art experience is necessary. For adults (21 and older); space is limited, and registration is required. Call 262-564-6130 to reserve a spot. 6 to 10 p.m.

The “Novels at Night” Book Club meets this evening at the Southwest Library.
