Wilmot Raceway event canceled

Today’s Interstate Racing Association/All-Stars Sprint Challenge at Wilmot Raceway has been canceled due to weather conditions.

Advance tickets will be refunded the first part of the week of May 20.

Wilmot Raceway, IRA and All-Star officials are attempting to reschedule the event, which was set to feature three-time NASCAR champion Tony Stewart.

The raceway’s next event is the Memorial Weekend Special on May 25 featuring AutoMeter Wisconsin Wingless Sprints, Modifieds, Street Stocks and Bandit 4-cylinder stock cars.

Grandstand admission is $15 for ages 12 and older, $5 for ages 7-11 and free for ages 6 and younger. Grandstands open at 5 p.m., with on-track activity at 5:45 and racing to follow.

Local wrestlers earn academic honors

Six wrestlers from Christian Life and two from Tremper recently were named to the Wisconsin Wrestling Coaches Association/wi.wrestling.co Academic All-State Teams.

Named to the first team from Christian Life were sophomore Javis Pinter and freshman Troy Dolphin, while honorable mention picks were senior Matthew Gee and sophomores Kade Pinter, Jaden Wright and Isaiah Hernandez.

Tremper placed two on the second team, senior Reese Dutton and sophomore Riley Dutton.

Red Men land on All-CCIW tennis

Tremper graduate Daniel Moore, a sophomore at Carthage, was named to the All-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin first team for the second straight year, according to a press release issued Thursday.

Also Thursday, the CCIW announced that Carthage senior Fordy Leipold was named the conference’s co-Most valuable Player for his efforts at the CCIW Tournament.

Leipold, who shared the honor with Augustana senior Jack Morkin, was 2-0 at No. 6 singles.
