Harborside Academy Today\'s Teen Anna Adamiec

Parents: Leslaw and Maria Adamiec, Kenosha.

Favorite class: Mr. Gransee’s chemistry class.

Most influential teachers: “I can’t provide just one most influential teacher. Teachers like Connie Spence and Melissa Jakubowski are always so positive and share a passion for the subject they teach and for teaching itself. Both will stop at nothing to make sure we understand a concept, and they get my humor and find my jokes funny, so that’s always a plus. LuAnn Underwood and Mary Bohning are like my school moms. I can go to them with anything for anything, and I know they will be there to help. The teachers at Harborside as a whole have influenced me greatly. I am now a better student, person and community member because of their support and guidance.”

Most memorable high school moment: “Our school trip to Costa Rica, where we visited a community in Palo Seco where deforestation of mangrove forests has caused their coastline to become unstable. To prevent further erosion and protect their home, our group planted and replanted mangrove trees. Besides our conservation efforts, we visited many touristy areas and got to discover Costa Rica’s beautiful landscapes, people and culture from every angle. I got to experience such an amazing country with amazing people, all while helping a community in need.”

School activities: National Honor Society; Quill & Scroll; Yearbook; Outward Bound Mentoring Program; National English Honor Society; cross country; swimming; track.

College: Carthage College or University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Field of study: undecided.

Lifetime goal: “All I want to do in life is to travel the world and help people.”

Role model: my sister, Joanna Adamiec.

“Ever since I was little, I would follow my sister around, copying her every move because I wanted to be more like her. Eighteen years later, little has changed. My sister is such a successful person, who has already accomplished so much in her life, and naturally I want to do big things like that too. She also has really positive personality, which rubs off of on everyone around, and I love that about her. I look up to her in all aspects of my life.”
