Chiappetta award

Nick and Tony Chiappetta, co-owners of Chiappetta Shoes, show off their Gold Service Award for Outstanding Customer Service.

Chiappetta Shoes, a four-generation Kenosha business, has walked off with its second Gold Service Award for Outstanding Customer Service.

This year’s award was presented to Chiappetta Shoes, 6821 39th Ave., at the national footwear industry’s annual convention in Las Vegas.

In business for 98 years, Chiappetta Shoes won the award in a competition that judged companies on a combination of customer service features such as merchandising, store atmosphere, product selection, attention to customer needs, including foot measurements and proper shoe suggestions.

It was scored by a mystery shopper who rated the store.

“We never know who they area,” said co-owner Tony Chiappetta. “... we have no idea who they are when they come in. It’s good for the whole industry.”

Such uncertainty tends to keep the staff on their toes. The company has built its reputation on its customer service through the generations.

“Everyone gets measured, even if they tell us their size,” said sales manager Joseph Randell. “We educate the customer, and we advise.”

Last fall, Chiappetta Shoes was selected at the Kenosha Area Business Alliance Ovation Awards ceremony as the 2018 Small Business of the Year.
