Kenall Manufacturing is on the cusp of making another big achievement as a nominee for the 2019 Wisconsin Manufacturer of the Year.

The Kenosha-based producer of specialty lighting for hospital, institutional and industrial operations, is one of the state’s most impressive manufacturers to be recognized at the awards ceremony Thursday in Milwaukee.

The awards are presented to companies in four size categories, ranging from a small company (up to 99 employees) and to a mega-sized company (more than 2,999 employees).

Since relocating from Gurnee, Ill., in 2014, Kenall, 10200 55th St., has been on a steady growth pattern, adding new employees, expanding its production capabilities and introducing new cutting-edge lighting products.

In 2017, the company’s performance netted it a Business of the Year Ovation Award presented by the Kenosha Area Business Alliance.

Last fall, Kenall was honored for its development of two innovative products — SenScape, a specialty lighting system for parking garages, and for Indigo-Clean, a lighting system designed to reduce harmful bacteria in hospitals.

“I see Kenall continuing to grow by introducing new controls and lighting products like our Indigo-Clean and expanding our existing markets,” said Vic Hernandez, Kenall’s director of manufacturing.

He said employee growth was an important factor to the company’s success.

“I see Kenall hiring many more employees in the years to come to support that growth as well as investments in manufacturing technology,” he said.

Kenall’s growth has been so impressive that it captured the attention of Legrand of North & South America, a global specialist in electrical and digital building infrastructures, which acquired Kenall in December.

Legrand officials said Kenall will retain its branding, and the current Kenosha staff will remain in place.

The acquisition, officials said, will position both companies to create and support a broader range of lighting and controls solutions to meet customers’ demands.
