All the merchandise has been liquidated and regular retail operations at Shopko’s Kenosha store, 5300 52nd St. have ceased except for the optical department, which will continue operating from the location until officials find a stand-alone location.
While it still is undetermined when the optical department will be relocated, a department official said workers have been told to expect another six to 10 weeks at the current location.
Shopko stores had hoped to keep the Kenosha location open, a few months after it began closing stores in other areas of the state after filing for bankruptcy.
After selling off its pharmacy departments, it had hoped to reorganize as a smaller company, or find a buyer for its remaining stores. It failed to find a buyer.
A year ago, Shopko launched some stand-alone optical stores with success and has considered that as another strategy.
