Police are searching for a man who reportedly assaulted another man with an ax Thursday afternoon.

According to the Kenosha Police Department, the incident happened at about 1:30 p.m. at an open business in the 5900 block of 35th Avenue.

A caller said a man with an ax and shovel entered the business and assaulted an adult male employee with the ax. The suspect then fled on foot northbound.

The victim suffered two lacerations to his elbow, but refused to be taken to a hospital.

Officers recovered an ax and shovel on scene. No motive for the assault was given.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 20 years old, clean-shaven with curly dark hair, wearing jeans and a dark T-shirt.

Numerous officers, including two police dogs, searched the area, but the suspect was not located.

KTEC West and McKinley Elementary schools were notified, and the schools were placed on a soft lockdown for a period of time.

Additional area police patrols were assigned for the remainder of the day.
