A Pleasant Prairie man has been charged with mistreatment of an animal, allegedly killing a cat by throwing it against a wall.
Devin McGillivray, 22, is alleged to have killed the cat in November after it urinated on him while he was sleeping. He told police he “forcefully swatted” the cat and it flew off the bed and hit a desk. He said he had not realized how hard he hit the cat and told police he was very remorseful. Another person in the home alleged McGillivray picked the cat up by the neck, carried it from the room and threw it against a brick wall.
Pleasant Prairie Police investigated the incident after receiving an anonymous call with an animal cruelty report March 10. According to the criminal complaint, the pet cat’s frozen body, wrapped in blankets, was being kept in a shed outside McGillivray’s Pleasant Prairie home so he could bury it when the ground thawed.
