Man shot in leg, second man beaten during fight early Sunday

A 39-year-old man was shot in the leg during a large fight outside an apartment building early Sunday.

Kenosha Police Sgt. Matt Strelow said officers were called to the 4900 block of 36th Avenue at 4:15 a.m. Sunday by a person who said that there were 50 to 60 people outside fighting, the witness reporting hearing what sounded like gunfire.

When officers arrived they found a 41-year-old man who was unconscious and who had facial injuries. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, but would not speak with police about what had happened.

Police also found a 39-year-old man nearby who had been shot in the leg. He said he had been outside and heard arguing and gunfire, then realized he was shot, Strelow said. The man was treated and released from a local hospital.

Strelow said police had been called to the same location about an hour before the fight call for a report of shots being fired but did not find any evidence.

The incident remains under investigation, Strelow said.
