Woman cited for speeding through school crossing

A 31-year-old Kenosha woman was cited after she sped through an intersection where a crossing guard was helping a child cross the road.

A witness called Kenosha Police and followed the driver who had failed to stop for the crossing guard on 60th Street at 18th Avenue at about 8 a.m. Thursday.

According to the police report, the crossing guard was in the street holding a stop sign to help a student cross, and other cars had slowed or stopped, when a white SUV accelerated through the intersection.

The crossing guard said the vehicle got within 2 feet of him.

The witness who followed the vehicle relayed the license plate to police, who were able to identify the driver and give her a citation.
