The reward has increased to $78,500 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a suspect in the fatal shooting of Racine Police Officer John D. Hetland.
Hetland was shot and killed around 9:40 p.m. June 17 while trying to prevent a robbery at Teezer’s Bar, 1936 Lathrop Ave.
The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, which is leading the investigation, said many local donors have stepped up to contribute to the reward fund. This includes businesses and organizations as well as local residents.
Investigators are asking residents and businesses within a one-half mile radius of Teezers Bar to check their backyards, alleyways and properties for anything they may consider suspicious or strange. This could include clothing, a weapon, or any other object they think may be suspicious.
Authorities ask that, if something is located, residents do not touch it, but instead call and report it to the Racine Police Department at 262-886-2300.
Anyone with information on the shooting should call Crime Stoppers at 262-656-7333, 888-363-9330 or 800-807-8477 (TIPS).
