A 15-year-old boy was shot early Thursday in an incident Kenosha Police are investigating as a “negligent discharge of a weapon.”

Police were called to an apartment in the 4900 block of 38th Avenue at 6:11 a.m.

The 15-year-old boy had a single gunshot wound to his abdomen. The shooting occurring inside the apartment, according to police.

The 15-year-old had surgery Thursday morning and was in stable condition Thursday afternoon, police said.

A gun was recovered by police at the scene.

An 18-year-old man is suspected of shooting the teen. Police described the 18-year-old as an acquaintance of the boy who was shot, and said he was with the boy at the apartment.

The 18-year-old was jailed on a probation hold as the investigation continues.
