Cadet Joshua Jeremiah Layton, the son of Reginald K. Layton and Dr. Beverly Jo Layton of Kenosha, graduated with the rank of second lieutenant from the 135th Corps of Cadets at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield on May 25.
Layton attended the academy for four years. He was on the Dean’s List with Honors in grade 12, and was a member of the National Honor Society and National Chinese Honor Society.
During his senior year, he received a $10,000 Herb Kohl Educational Foundation 2019 Initiative Scholarship and was recognized as Lake Country Rotary Student of the Month.
He was a member of varsity wrestling in grades 9-12, varsity lacrosse in grades 10-11, and varsity track in grade 12.
He received the Pattee Brothers Athletic Award in grade 11 for being the best all-around athlete who displays the highest degree of cooperation with his coaches and teammates.
In addition, Layton completed more than 460 hours of community service for activities such as tutoring and community events.
Layton has been accepted to Morehouse College.
