Many residents have taken note of the boulders stacking up along the Lake Michigan shoreline near Kennedy Drive.

They are part of a nearly $8 million lakefront infrastructure project to shore up the revetment there.

Currently, the boulders are being trucked in and stockpiled along the shoreline. They will be placed starting later this month, according to city officials.

Some of the rocks will be placed underwater. Others will be positioned on top of the existing revetment.

“They place each rock individually,” assistant city engineer Greg Boldt said. “It’s like a big jigsaw puzzle.”

The project is expected to be completed in early 2020.
