YORKVILLE — Two people were hurt in a multi-car crash on Interstate 94 that closed a portion of the highway for about two hours Tuesday.
According to the Racine County Sheriff’s Office, the crash was reported at 2:40 p.m. just south of Two Mile Road. Two sport utility vehicles and a tanker truck were involved, with one SUV wedged under the tanker.
Deputies said the crash occurred when the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe, a 53-year-old man, hit a crushable barrier along the median wall, then struck a Jeep Grand Cherokee occupied by a married couple who are both 76 years old. The Tahoe then crashed into the tanker.
The occupants of both SUVs were taken to local hospitals. The driver of the tanker was not injured.
The crash required all southbound lanes of the interstate to be closed for approximately two hours, and one lane remained closed for an additional hour.
The initial cause of the crash is still under investigation.
