Steil to host listening sessions Friday

First District U.S. Rep. Bryan Steil, R-Wis., will host a listening session in Kenosha on Friday.

The session will be 9:05 to 9:55 a.m. in the Madrigrano Auditorium of Gateway Technical College, 3520 30th Ave.

The listening session is free and open to district residents. Constituents are encouraged to attend to discuss issues pending in Congress or to request assistance dealing with federal agencies.

Invasive species workday at Pringle

BRISTOL — An invasive species workday takes place 9 a.m. to noon Saturday at Pringle Nature Center, 9800 160th Ave.

Volunteers will help remove undesirable non-native, invasive plants.

Participants should bring their own work gloves; tools will be provided.

Kids can make ‘Gifts from the Garden’

TWIN LAKES — “Gifts from the Garden” will be 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at Community Library, 110 S. Lake Ave.

Ages 3-6 are invited to learn about plants and make a craft.

Ballroom dance Saturday at Kemper

KENOSHA — A Memorial Day ballroom dance will take place 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday at the Kemper Center, 6501 Third Ave.

The event will feature live big band music by Southport Sound, a dessert buffet and specialty drinks.

Admission is $15 per person, $10 for those in military service.

University president to give talk

The 2019 Carthage commencement speaker, Dam Bich Thuy, will give a talk at 2 p.m. Saturday in A.F. Siebert Chapel.

A reception will follow in Einstein’s, located in Hedberg Library.

Thuy is the founding president of Fulbright University Vietnam, the first nonprofit, private institution in Vietnam to embrace the American liberal arts approach to higher education.

After growing up in Vietnam, Thuy worked in international finance at the Australia New Zealand Bank, where she helped set up investment banking business in Asia. Later, she was tapped to lead ANZ’s Vietnam operations.

Now she is changing course, launching a new institution of higher learning.

‘Minecraft Mania’ is theme

KENOSHA — “Super Saturday” takes place noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at Southwest Library, 7979 38th Ave.

The theme is “Minecraft Mania.” Participants can take part in a variety of Minecraft activities, talk about the new movie and share knowledge of the game.
