On October 17, WisconsinEye Senior Producer Steve Walters sat down with the co-chairs of the Assembly Water Quality Task Force, Rep. Todd Novak (R-Dodgeville) and Rep. Katrina Shankland (D-Stevens Point) to discuss the task force and the threat of PFAs for Wisconsin. Rep. Shankland expressed concern about the lack of scientific study on PFAs compared to Nitrates. "We know that it bioaccumulates, so it stays in our body for very long periods of time, but we don't have...the long term health effects and ramifications." Rep. Novak highlighted how PFAs are a national problem and are found in a high percent of consumer products and are probably in our blood. "60 percent of PFAs are food-related items...the chances are, if the three of us take a blood test right now, we have some level of PFAs in our body, most people do."
