SALEM LAKES — A motorist died after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a train this afternoon.

According to the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department, the collision occurred at 1:10 p.m. at a private railroad crossing in the area of 258th Avenue and the Canadian National Railroad tracks.

Authorities said the train was southbound when it hit the vehicle at the crossing north of 258th Avenue.

The train was able to come to a stop north of Highway C.

Crossings approximately one mile north of the scene were blocked by the train following the accident, and motorists were advised to avoid the crossings near 264th Avenue in the Camp Lake Area for several hours.

Representatives from the Kenosha County Medical Examiner’s Office responded to the scene.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
