BRISTOL — The 50th anniversary of Bristol Progress Days will be celebrated this weekend with the biggest carnival to date at the festival and capped off with a larger fireworks display at dusk on Sunday.
“We have more rides than we’ve ever had,” Carol Nichols, a member of the committee, said. “There are six rides for children and six rides for adults.”
The three-day festival kicks off Friday and runs through Sunday at Hansen Park, at highways 45 and AH. It features fastpitch softball, volleyball and baggo tournaments and a new kickball tournament this year.
Coronation Banquet — Miss Bristol and the Outstanding Citizen announcements are made at the annual banquet held at the Parkway Chateau at 6 p.m. Friday evening, advance tickets only.
Carnival — 6-10 p.m.
Music — DJ Kody, 7 p.m. in the beer tent at Hansen Park
Run/walk — 7 a.m. beginning at Bristol Village Hall
Kids games — 10 a.m. at Hansen Park
Carnival — 1-5 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. sessions
Pedal Pull Contest — 11 a.m. in West Pavilion
Pie Contest judging — 3 p.m. in West Pavilion
Music — In the Stix, 9:30 p.m.in the Beer Tent
Parade — 12:30 p.m. through downtown Bristol, ending at Hansen Park
Auction — At Hansen Park following the parade.
Carnival — 1:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 6-10 p.m. sessions
Balloon Artist — Big Balloon Tycoon will entertain from 5-7 p.m.
Fireworks — At Hansen Park at dusk.
Music — Trip, 5:30 p.m. in the Beer Tent.
