The Readers are Leaders tutoring program is in need of community volunteers to work with school children in local elementary schools starting this fall.
The tutoring program is an early grade reading initiative that helps children from kindergarten to third grade build critical reading skills. Volunteers work one-on-one with young students during the school day to supplement their classroom work.
Volunteers are needed for 30-minute tutoring sessions held during the school day for the 2019-20 school year.
Community volunteers will be placed in one of five schools: McKinley Elementary, Brass Elementary, EBSOLA-Creative Arts Elementary, Forest Park Elementary and Wilson Elementary.
Volunteers are asked to commit to one tutoring session per week until the end of the school year.
Training sessions will be available for tutors.
Those interested in volunteering should go to the United Way of Kenosha County’s website at www.kenoshaunitedway.org and go to the Readers are Leaders tutoring program page to complete the volunteer application and the Kenosha Unified School District background check form.
