Smoke in an elevator shaft at a Kenosha hospital forced the evacuation of about 200 people Tuesday afternoon.

The Kenosha Fire Department responded to call around 3:15 p.m. at Aurora Medical Center, 10400 75th St.

According to Capt. Dave Sass of the fire department, the evacuation from the clinic side of the campus lasted for about a half hour, following a report of smoke coming from an elevator shaft on the south side, which eventually billowed into the building.

Sass said the elevator had been serviced earlier in the morning.

The hospital side was not evacuated, and no injuries were reported.
