The Wisconsin Department of Justice Division of Criminal Investigation served a warrant on the Somers home, taking a 37-year-old man into custody pending charges of possession of child pornography.
The man is being held in Kenosha County Jail on a probation hold as well as the pending charges.
Investigators from the state agency served the warrant on the home at 1618-12th Avenue in Somers at about 8 a.m. Wednesday morning. Sgt. Christopher Hannah of the Kenosha Sheriff’s Department said deputies were on the scene to assist but are not involved in the investigation.
The man is one of three adults who live in the home, which is also the residence of former county board supervisor and village trustee Joe Cardinali.
Cardinali confirmed the warrant was served at the house, saying the person taken into custody is a family member. According to court records, the man previously lived in Cottage Grove, Wis., He was convicted in 2012 of possession with intent to distribute THC after 350 pounds of marijuana was found in home in Cambridge that he and another man were using for drug sales. State records show he was released on probation in 2015.
The DCI has statewide jurisdiction and is typically involved in multi-jurisdictional investigations, often investigating computer crimes including possession of child pornography.
