A man killed in a police-involved shooting in Mount Pleasant Saturday has been identified as an 18-year-old Racine man.
According to the Mount Pleasant Police Department, Tyrese West was shot and killed by a Mount Pleasant police officer after he would not comply with police commands.
West was believed to be armed by police.
The incident took place around 1:35 a.m. Saturday on the 2500 block of Racine Street. Around that time, a Mount Pleasant officer had attempted to make contact with a man on a bicycle — later identified as West – who fled from police. After a brief chase on foot, the officer saw that West was armed, according to a release from the Mount Pleasant Police Department Sunday.
After the shooting, police said they attempted live-saving procedures but were not successful, and West died at the scene.
The Racine Police Department is currently investigating the shooting, with assistance from the State Division of Criminal Investigation.
