Racine and Kenosha County law enforcement agencies held their fifth annual Run With the Cops event at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside Saturday evening.

Special Olympics athletes, local law enforcement officers, UW-Parkside students and community members donned flashing necklaces, glow bracelets and other illluminating items for the night run at the local college, with law enforcement vehicles doing their part by lighting up the course with flashing red and blue lights.

The event featured not only running — with a Kids’ Dash at 8:30 p.m. and a 5K Run/Walk at 9 p.m. — but also opportunities to tour emergency vehicles, try on SWAT gear, play kids’ games and other activities for family members of all ages.

Members of the UW-Parkside Campus Police, Racine County Sheriff’s Department, Kenosha Police Department, Caledonia Police Department and the Law Enforcement Torch Run have organized the event the past five years to unite the community and raise funds for Special Olympics Wisconsin athletes.

Participants needed to raise or pay $25 to participate in the event, receiving a goodie bag and T-shirt for their effort.
