PLEASANT PRAIRIE — Police are looking for what has been characterized as a “flash mob” of males who entered the North Face store at Pleasant Prairie Premium Outlets Monday, taking more than $30,000 in merchandise from the business.

The incident happened at 7:45 p.m. Monday at the store at 11601 108th St., Suite 577, when “10 black males entered the store and each grabbed as much merchandise as they could carry before running to the cars and leaving the property,” said Sgt. Aaron Schaffer of the Pleasant Prairie Police Department. Items included jackets and other articles of clothing. There was no physical confrontation.

Schaffer said the suspects, who remain at large, were in the store for approximately 20 to 30 seconds before fleeing the scene.

The theft occurred about an hour before the store’s regular closing time.

“It was like a flash mob,” he said.

The store specializes in outdoor wear and gear.

According to police, at least three vehicles were involved in the shoplifting incident, including a maroon Dodge Magnum, a maroon Pontiac Grand Prix with Indiana license plates and a smaller red vehicle — possibly a Pontiac G5 or G6 or a Chevrolet Cobalt.

Police Chief David Smetana said the thefts appear to be linked to a similar shoplifting case at an outlet mall in Aurora, Ill. The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information on the incident should contact village police at 262-694-7353.
