With the close out of June Dairy Month last month, Opportunity Wisconsin hosted a virtual conversation with U.S. Representative Ron Kind (D-La Crosse, 3rd District) and agriculture leaders from around the state to discuss challenges with COVID-19 in the agriculture industry. U.S. Rep. Kind acknowledged the hardships that farmers face during this short-term crisis and announced a bipartisan bill to create a national commission to study the reason why the U.S. market has excess surplus which is driving down prices and to come up with policy solutions. "The virus hasn't helped," Kind said. "It's shut down demand in restaurants, schools, other places where our farmers typically sell into, and that's one of the consequences of this short-term global pandemic."
