1916 – 2012

Emma Swetish, 95, a resident of St. Joseph's Home died there peacefully on Friday, July 27, 2012.

Born on Aug. 18, 1916, in Calumet, Mich., she was the daughter of the late Frank and Amelia (LaJeunesse) Gasperich. She was educated in schools in Michigan, graduating in June, 1933 from Calumet High. She came to Kenosha in 1934, to live with her Grandma LaJeunesse.

On Nov. 27, 1941, she was married to John Swetish. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1961.

Her working career began with Coopers/Jockey International until her marriage. After her husband's death, she was employed for seven years with Mayer Drug Store, 26 years at Barden Store, until they closed, and then at Christy's in Racine. Emma worked until she was 90.

For the last four years, Emma was a resident of St. Joseph's Home. She was treated with dignity and great compassionate care. It became her second home.

She is survived by two children, Maryann Wawiorka of Kenosha and Gary (Laura) Swetish of Racine; her loving grandchildren, Matthew, Mark, Lisa and Tom; her great grandchildren, Mitchell, Emily, Alec, Max, Jacob, Katriana and Amelia; her sister, Marguerite (Natal) Tognetti; her brothers, Raymond (Sharon) and Carl (Bea) Gasperich; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Swetish; and three brothers, Francis, Albert and Joseph Gasperich.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, July 31, 2012. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph's Home Chapel, 9244 29th Avenue. Private interment will be held in St. James Cemetery. A visitation will be held at St. Joseph's Home from 10:15 a.m. until the time of the Mass.
