In your “Locals recall D-Day,” the section related to John Arnett, you state he was a part of the U.S. Navy Armored Guard, while actually they are Armed Guard serving on board merchant ships manning the guns. If you look at Arnett’s baseball cap, it has Armed Guard.
My father served in the Navy as a Gunners Mate 2nd Class and a member of the Armed Guard during World War II in both the Atlantic fleet through D-Day and then Pacific after the invasion. I have my father’s Armed Guard baseball cap and his photo album from this time in history.
