I have never been so anxious for spring.
PBS tells me of changes and challenges from the climate change. I compost every eggshell, coffee ground and vegetable peel for my garden just as grandma taught me. I plan every route and car trip to minimize my travel, and my carbon footprint should be pretty small.
But what’s the use of planting milkweed balls and black-eyed Susans in with my tomatoes and beans when a powerful handful of drug lords can terrorize two whole small countries in our hemisphere to walk 600 miles with their babies to our border to flaunt their silent power?
This nation saw Hitler conquer Europe with his blitzkrieg, and with our allies we took him on and we took him down. Thousands died that millions might live.
Why hasn’t a real war on drugs happened? Is it because the names we gave Hitler and the Nazis are never used to describe EL Chapo and the drug dealers who bury people in middle America by the hundreds? Their crimes are not the focus of our nation’s considerable military and technological might. There are no slogans or battle cries on the Internet — much less in Congress.
If you see something — say something might be a start for each of us, and remember how to pray while you’re doing it. If you’re tired of old folks slogans from WWII, try this one in your blogs: “God really hates those who wage war using babies.”
