Brewers' Hernán Pérez elects free agency

The Milwaukee Brewers sent utility man Hernán Pérez outright to Class AAA San Antonio on Wednesday, and he chose to become a free agent.

Pérez, who was third in seniority on the Brewers’ roster behind Ryan Braun and Jimmy Nelson, played in 572 games over five years, playing every position other than catcher. He batted .258 with 45 home runs, 175 RBIs and 67 stolen bases.

The Brewers’ 40-man roster now stands at 39.
