The Central boys basketball team has made a lot of history over the last four seasons.
The Falcons added to it Thursday night.
With an undisputed Southern Lakes Conference title already wrapped up and a No. 1 seed in the WIAA Division-2 postseason field in hand as Central tries to reach state for the second straight season after doing it for the first time ever last year, there was still a milestone to be reached.
And the Falcons did it, cruising past Union Grove, 72-42, in Paddock Lake to complete the first undefeated conference season in program history.
With its 14th consecutive win, Central improved to 20-1 overall and finished SLC play 14-0. The Falcons host Tremper in a non-conference game to close the regular season at 7 tonight, then they’ll wait to face either No. 8 seed Waterford or No. 9 seed Milton in a Division-2 regional semifinal at home on March 1.
Jaeden Zackery and Dylan Anderson each scored 15 points to lead a balanced Central attack Thursday. Adam Simmons scored 13 points, Jake Mueller added 12 and all 13 players on the roster got into the game.
“We had balanced scoring across the board tonight,” Central coach James Hyllberg said. “We did a much better job in the second half rebounding, and we were to knock down some shots against their triangle-and-two defense.
“I thought Jake Mueller played his best game of the season. It was good to see everyone contribute and have fun while playing hard.”
Union Grove (8-14 overall, 6-8 SLC) was led by Collin Long’s 10 points.
Bradford 67, Racine Horlick 54
The visiting Red Devils broke open a close game in the second half behind 13 points from Da Quantae Sawyer and nine from Tanner Hurley in the final 18 minutes to earn the Southeast Conference win in their regular-season finale.
Sawyer finished with a game-high 23 points for Bradford (7-15, 4-10), while Hurley had 15. Maxwell Glass chipped in with 14 and Jake Sykora had nine.
Marquise Milton led Horlick (9-13, 8-6) with 20 points.
Wilmot 84, Delavan-Darien 46
The host Panthers raced out to a 19-point halftime lead and never looked back to close their regular season at 17-4 overall and 10-4 in the Southern Lakes Conference.
Kevin Sandman led five Panthers in double figures with 12 points, followed by Devin Spath with 11 and Zack Watson, Kevin Brenner and London Glass each with 10.
Delavan (0-22, 0-14) got 11 points each from Oliver Hetzel and Justin Cesarz.
Shoreland Lutheran 57, Faith Christian 42
The visiting Pacers held a three-point lead at the intermission, but outscored the Eagles by 12 in the final 18 minutes to pick up the non-conference victory.
Joshua Edmundson led Shoreland (6-16) with 16 points, followed by Brandon Freitag with 14, Sawyer Smith with 12 and Quentin Bolton with 11.
Christian Life 70, Waukesha Christian 38
The Eagles broke into the win column for the first time this season with a non-conference home victory.
