Carthage’s Stefanie Guercio and Millikin’s Kalli Farmer were selected as the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Softball Players of the Week on Tuesday.

Guercio, a junior, received the honor for the fourth time this season after going 4-1 with a 0.85 ERA and 40 strikeouts over 33 innings last week.

Guercio went seven innings and gave up no earned runs in a 4-1 victory over Carroll in Game 1 of a doubleheader on April 23. She struck out seven over four innings to help the Reds complete the sweep with a 4-3 win.

Guercio pitched Carthage to a 3-1 win over Millikin on Sunday, allowing no earned runs and striking out five over seven innings.

Men’s outdoor

track and field

The College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin on Tuesday named Carthage’s Aaron Austin and North Central’s 1,600-meter relay team its Men’s Outdoor Track and Field Athletes of the Week.

Austin, a sophomore, won the honor for the second straight week following his performance at the UW-Whitewater Drake Alternative meet. He placed first in the hammer (52.89 meters) and third in the shot put (15.16) and discus (46.92). Austin’s marks in the hammer and shot were personal bests, while his shot put performance ranks first in the CCIW.

Austin is second in the CCIW in the hammer and 38th on the NCAA Division III national list.

Men’s lacrosse

Carthage’s Andy Szun and North Central’s Dylan Cost were named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Men’s Lacrosse Players of the Week on Tuesday.

The award capped an outstanding week for Szun, who set career conference records in points (317) and goals (219) for the Red Men.

The senior attacker tallied five goals and three assists in a 25-5 win over Carroll on April 23, five goals and two assists in a 17-13 loss to Elmhurst a day later and a pair of goals in a 13-12 overtime victory over North Central on Sunday.

Szun, a two-time Player of the Week selection this season, also recently was named first-team All-Conference for the third straight season. Carthage junior defender Joe Poremba, along with sophomore midfielders Brody Ilstrup and Noah Lindner, joined Szun on the first team.

Defender Liam O’Connor, attacker Colin Poitras and long stick midfielder Sam Yokobosky, all sophomores, made the second team for the Red Men.

Women’s lacrosse

Four Carthage players were recently named to the CCIW All-Conference team.

Junior defender Emily Lima received first-team honors, while junior attacker Nicole Bowman, sophomore attacker Jessie Gibson and freshman midfielder Margaux Giacotto made the second team.
