Members of the Carthage men’s and women’s swim teams competed on the first day of the NCAA Division III Championships on Wednesday at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, N.C.
In the men’s field, Mitchell Mages, who qualified on the “B” list, finished 29th out of 53 competitors in the 50-yard freestyle preliminaries with a time of 20.81. Mages joined Sam Gabriel, Nicholas Nevins and Adam Moskus in the 200 medley relay. They finished 20th in 1:32.7.
The top eight finishers in preliminaries advanced to the championship flight.
The Red Men will compete again today, with Gabriel, Nevins, Moskus and Mages swimming in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay preliminaries at 9 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m. if they advance.
In the women’s field, DeAnn Jones placed 28th out of 63 competitors in the 50 freestyle (23.71). Jones, Heather Walker, Becca Rutkowski and Gianna McGuire placed 31st in the 200 medley relay (1:51.43).
The Reds will compete today, as Jones will swim in the 100 butterfly and will also join Walker, Rutkowski and McGuire in the 200 freestyle relay and 400 medley relay.
