The conditions for Friday’s Kenosha County Boys Golf Invitational at Brighton Dale Links were sloppy.
But given the inclement weather that’s gripped the area most of the spring and the torrential rains that hit this week, the course was in as good of shape as it could be.
Central certainly wasn’t complaining.
The teams used various parts of the 45-hole layout — the facility features two 18-hole courses and a nine-hole course — to cobble together 18 holes, playing the nine-hole Red Pines Course for the front nine and the back nine of the 18-hole White Birch Course for the back nine.
The Falcons emerged as the champions of the eight-team meet, totaling 349 shots, seven ahead of second-place Indian Trail’s 356.
Leading the way for Central was Paul Lynch, who fired a 2-over-par 74 (37-37) to earn medalist honors by two shots over Tremper’s Cameron Huss.
Huss finished second with a 4-over 76 (39-37).
“It was thrilling to win today’s event and to have Paul Lynch shoot an awesome 2-over-par in sloppy conditions,” said Central coach Mark Olsen, whose team has reached the WIAA Division-1 State Tournament each of the last two seasons.
“The course was in unbelievable condition given all the rain we have been having.”
Tremper finished in third place with 358 strokes, Wilmot was fourth (419) and St. Joseph placed fifth (427). Christian Life, Bradford and Shoreland Lutheran each did not have four golfers to post a complete team score and placed sixth, seventh and eighth, respectively.
Indian Trail’s Dylan Moore placed third individually with a 79 (40-39), while Tremper’s Tyler Dahl was fourth with an 83 (40-43) and Shoreland’s Ryan Fitzpatrick placed fifth with an 84 (41-43).
John Mauser had Bradford’s top finish, placing sixth at 88 (42-46).
Lynch was the Falcons’ only top-five finisher, but Bryce Drier (90, 45-45), Gavin Goldstein (92, 46-46) and Will Cavener (93, 44-49) occupied the eighth through 10th spots.
Sam Paupore led St. Joseph with a 94 (44-50), Caleb Stinespring paced Christian Life with a 94 (44-50) and Ryan Vazquez led Wilmot with a 99 (52-47).
