Central (0-1) at Woodstock North (Ill.) (0-0)
When: 7 tonight
Where: Woodstock North (3000 Raffel Rd., Woodstock, Ill.)
Series note: The teams have met in Week 2 each of the last two seasons, with each team winning on the road. Central won 28-20 in 2017, while Woodstock North won 42-20 last season. … In last year’s game, the Thunder led 21-0 at halftime and for the game racked up 369 rushing yards on 56 attempts.
Player to watch: Central coach Tyson Mengel believes senior receiver/defensive back Myles Kazumura, who goes 5-foot-8, 150 pounds, will be a key factor on both sides of the ball. … “We are expecting North to attack our edges this week and must have Myles set a hard edge to force the ball back into traffic,” Mengel said. “We also see some spots we can exploit in the passing game. Myles has had a great week of practice, flying around and playing fast. He should have a solid football game (tonight).”
Key stat: The Falcons simply must generate more offense than they did in their 26-0 Week 1 home loss to Racine Case. Central managed just 149 total yards.
FYI: Woodstock North, a member of Illinois’ Kishwaukee River Conference, is playing its season opener. … In each of the last two seasons under coach Jeff Schroeder, the Thunder went 5-5 and qualified for the IHSA Class 5A playoffs.
