The UW-Parkside women’s volleyball team closed out a perfect weekend trip to Indianapolis on Saturday with a three-set sweep over Malone.
Parkside, which won for the fourth time in its last five matches, including three straight at the Midwest Region Crossover Tournament on Friday and Saturday, posted a 25-17, 25-23, 27-25 victory to improve to 8-13 overall.
The Rangers on Friday defeated Truman State and Southern Indiana, 3-1, to open the tournament.
“I was really happy to finish the already good weekend (Saturday) on a strong note,” Parkside coach Leigh Barea said. “Malone was really scrappy and seemed like they were digging everything, so I’m proud of the way we stayed engaged and finished our plays.
“(The 3-0 weekend) is a confidence boost. I hope this will help us moving forward into conference season as we continue to fight for a spot in the (Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference) tournament.”
Leading the way against Malone were Rachel Hedman (13 kills, four blocks, 15 digs), Reese Rossnagel (12 kills), Carlee Behnke (five blocks) and Alysha Brickl (37 assists).

Playing in its third straight road game Friday, the Rangers held the early lead on Jack Mittelsteadt’s sixth goal of the season, but the hosts tied things up in the 52nd minute to force the deadlock.
Parkside’s Leki Prpa and Burim Huseini were credited with an assist on Mittelsteadt’s goal.
Goalie Juan Gonzalez had seven saves for Parkside, which now is 6-1-1 and in first place in the GLIAC.
Ferris State 4,
The Rangers fell behind, 3-0, in the first half and couldn’t recover Friday to fall to 5-7-1 overall and 0-4-1 in the GLIAC.
Parkside’s lone goal came from Maycee Kroening.
Jazmin Castanon and Delaney Benich each had four shots on goal.
Goalie Adrianna Bratel had 11 saves for the Rangers in the loss.
