Thanks to a 3-under-par 69 in Wednesday's third round, Tremper senior-to-be Cameron Huss is in the top 10 heading into Thursday's final round of the 118th State Amateur Championship at the Golf Courses of Lawsonia Links Course in Green Lake.
Huss was tied for ninth with a three-round total of 2-under 214, along with Fond du Lac's Christopher Colla, Spring Valley's Tyler Leach and Hartland's Piercen Hunt.
All four had finished their third rounds by Wednesday evening. Nine players were still finishing their rounds, including leader Phillip Johnson of Colgate. Through 16 holes Thursday, Johnson was 9-under and held a two-stroke lead on Chippewa Falls' Thomas Longbella and Hunter Eichhorn of Carney, Mich.
Longbella had finished his third round, while Eichhorn was through 16 holes.
Huss, meanwhile, shot an even-par 36 on his front nine Wednesday with two birdies and two bogeys, but he had three birdies and six pars on the back nine for a sizzling 3-under 33. Huss shot a 1-over 73 in Monday's first round and an even-par 72 in Tuesday's second round.
As a junior, Huss fired a two-day total of 2-over 146 (75-71) at University Ridge in Verona to finish fifth in the WIAA Division-1 State Tournament.
The only other county player to make the cut in the State Amateur was Kenosha's Mark Laken, who was tied for 60th at 13-over 229 (76-77-76) when his finished his third round.
County players missing the cut were Kenosha's Jamie Young and Travis Engle.
