A rally in the top of the ninth inning fell short for the Kenosha Kingfish in a Northwoods League game at Rockford on Friday night.
Trailing 6-1, Kenosha made it interesting with three runs in the ninth, but the Rivets held on for a 6-4 victory.
Kenosha (10-16) swept Rockford (12-12) in a doubleheader at Simmons Field on Thursday. The teams continue their five-game series at Rockford at 6:35 p.m. tonight before finishing it up at Simmons Field at 1:05 p.m. Sunday.
Kenosha manged just six hits Friday, with Ryan Knernschield going 2-for-3 with two runs and RJ Pearson finishing 2-for-4 with a run.
Jake VanderWal drove in three runs for the Rivets.
Tremper graduate Keith Kutzler took the loss to drop to 1-3 for the Kingfish. He allowed two runs (both earned) on five hits with four walks and seven strikeouts in 42/3 innings.
