The Kenosha Kingfish withstood a late-inning rally by the Rockford Rivets in an 8-7 Northwoods League victory in the opener of a home-away doubleheader Wednesday at Simmons Field.
The second game ended too late for press time.
Rockford (9-11) erased a 6-1 deficit with six unanswered runs in the sixth and seventh innings, but Kenosha (9-11) took the lead for good with a pair of runs in the seventh. Former Tremper standout Mitchell Buban singled home Jake Cosgrove to even the score at 7-7, and Mike Jarvis drew a bases-loaded walk to score Drew Dyer for the game-winning run.
Reliever Jacob DeLabio, also a Tremper product, pitched a pair of scoreless innings to earn the save for the Kingfish, who have won five of their last six games.
Buban (2-for-4, two RBI), Roberto Pena (2-for-5, run, RBI) led Kenosha’s offense.
