The 38th Mayor’s Cup will be the feature race in tonight’s program at the Washington Park Velodrome.
The racing program begins at 7 p.m.
The 75-lap points race is for Categories 1, 2 and 3 riders. The race features a sprint every five laps, with riders getting five points for first place, three for second, two for third and one for fourth.
Double points are awarded on the final lap.
Last year, less than two months after suffering a broken left collarbone, 32-year-old Tyler George of XXX Racing held off teammate Jake Buescher for the win.
Dan Breuer of Comrade Cycles Racing, like George and Buescher a Chicago resident, finished third, while Kenosha residents Rob Springer of Team Wheel & Sprocket and Kaz Milas of Kenosha Velosport finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 26-rider field.
The Mayor’s Cup is one of three major Tuesday night points races held at the velodrome each summer.
The Bill Schulte Memorial Junior Race is scheduled for July 23, while the grueling 150-lap Bob Pfarr Classic is slated for Aug. 13.
Admission to all races is free.
