UW-Parkside athletic director Andrew Gavin on Wednesday announced the promotions of Wendy Wilson and Chris Barker to new senior associate athletic director positions.
“Chris and Wendy have provided incredible leadership and made a positive impact since arriving at Parkside,” Gavin said. “Their talents, work ethic and unselfishness are inspiring to me and an asset to our staff, student-athletes and campus community. Parkside Athletics has continued to evolve and progress over the past two years, and Chris and Wendy have taken on significant leadership roles and enhanced responsibility.”
Wilson has been promoted to senior associate athletic director for compliance and student-athlete welfare. A member of Parkside’s senior administration team since October 2017, Wilson will continue to oversee the department’s compliance operations, sports medicine and strength and conditioning, and serve as the senior woman administrator.
In her expanded role, Wilson will spearhead all efforts focused on student-athlete welfare, including serving as the adviser to the Ranger Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. She will also oversee the newly created athletics academic coordinator and compliance graduate assistant positions.
Wilson is the sports administrator for men’s and women’s soccer and wrestling.
“It has been exciting to be part of the growth that has taken place with Parkside Athletics in the last two years and I’m eager to take the next steps in enhancing our student-athlete experience,” Wilson said. “I appreciate the commitment the university and Andrew continue to show to supporting our student-athletes on and off the field.”
Barker will have the role of senior associate athletic director for administration and revenue generation. The Racine native, who has worked at Parkside as the associate athletic director for internal operations since April 2018, will continue to oversee the department’s finances, human resources, facilities and event management.
In his new role, Barker will be more directly involved in revenue-generating initiatives such as fundraising, corporate partnerships and external rentals.
A member of the department’s senior administration team, Barker serves as the sports administrator for the baseball, softball, cross country and track and field programs.
“I am excited about the new opportunity to help Parkside Athletics continue to grow, and I thank Andrew Gavin for his faith in me in this new role,” Barker said. “I’m passionate about our evolution and progress, and I look forward to working on campus and in the community.”
