St. Thomas More (0-2) at St. Joseph (2-0)
When: 7 tonight
Where: Bradford Stadium (3700 Washington Rd.)
Series note: The teams have played each other seven consecutive seasons in the Metro Classic Conference, and the Lancers have dominated, going 7-0 and winning by an average margin of 29 points. … Last year's game was close, however, as St. Joseph squeaked out a 17-14 road victory in Week 3.
Player to watch: St. Joseph coach Matt Rizzo has been pleased by a pair of two-way starters in 6-1, 195-pound sophomore fullback/inside linebacker Caden Tolefree and 5-9, 175-pound junior right guard/inside linebacker Danny Santarelli. … "They are versatile players for us," Rizzo said. "They are tough, intelligent and powerful. Both are instrumental in what we do, both on 'O' and 'D.' We run behind them the majority of our run plays. And on 'D,' they make all of our calls and do an excellent job at reading their keys. More importantly, they have been great leaders for us. They have a great sense for the game and bring a ton of energy to practice every day."
Key stat: St. Joseph senior running back Jake Gessert has already racked up a county-leading seven TDs, five rushing and two receiving. ... The Lancers outscored their two non-conference foes, Milwaukee Bradley Tech and HOPE Christian, by a combined 74-14.
FYI: St. Joseph is looking for its first 3-0 start since the 2012 season. … Thomas More has played one county team already this year, a 24-12 home loss to Christian Life in Week 1.
