The Carthage softball team finished second in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin regular-season standings and earned its first NCAA Division III Tournament bid since 2013.

On Wednesday, three Reds were honored with All-CCIW accolades.

Junior pitcher Stefanie Guercio was named to the first team, while senior catcher Alex Millett and junior utility player Ellie Bernero — a Kenosha native and Bradford graduate — were named to the second team.

Guercio, a native of Park Ridge, Ill., was named to the second team last season and had a historic 2019 campaign.

The transfer from NAIA Southeastern University has posted a miniscule 0.90 earned-run average, 212 strikeouts, a .165 opponents’ batting average against and an 18-4 record over 1391/3 innings pitched. Her 212 strikeouts and 10.7 strikeouts per seven innings both rank fourth in all of NCAA Division II, while her ERA ranks seventh.

Millett, a St. Charles, Ill., native, makes her second straight appearance on the second team.

Also a transfer from Southeastern, Millett is batting .272 (34-for-125) with seven doubles and a team-high seven stolen bases while providing solid defense behind the plate.

Bernero also earned her second consecutive second-team honor after a solid campaign offensively and in the circle.

Bernero leads Carthage with a .356 batting average (32-for-90) and has 10 doubles, a triple, a home run and a .522 slugging percentage. She’s also posted a 3.19 ERA with two saves and 23 strikeouts in 412/3 innings of work.

Junior Ally Wiegand of conference champion Illinois Wesleyan was named the Pitcher of the Year, while Wheaton senior utility player Kelly Thornton garnered Player of the Year honors.
