It took a buzzer-beater from Southern Lakes Conference rival Elkhorn in last week’s Division-2 sectional semifinal to keep the Central boys basketball team from a return trip to state.

But that certainly didn’t take away from what the Falcons accomplished in the regular season — and the SLC coaches definitely took notice.

Led by Player of the Year Jaden Zackery, the Falcons landed four players on All-SLC teams released Monday.

Joining Zackery, a senior, on the first team was senior Dylan Anderson. Senior Adam Simmons was named to the second team, while senior Joey Michelau was honorable mention.

Zackery finished the year with 537 points (21.5 per game), including 20 3-pointers and a .615 field-goal percentage (203-for-330). He was 113-for-150 from the free-throw line, averaged 5.4 rebounds a game, 5 assists a game and collected 61 steals.

Central ran the table to a perfect 14-0 SLC mark and finished the year at 23-2 overall.

Wilmot placed a trio on the team, led by junior first-team pick Zack Watson. Junior Kevin Sandman and freshman London Glass were named honorable mention.

Hickey leads girls

On the girls’ side, Wilmot junior Julia Hickey was a first-team selection, while senior teammate Riley Alexander was named to the second team. Senior Karoline Klahs was honorable mention.

Central junior Ellie Witt was named honorable mention.

Waterford junior Katelyn Rohner, who led the Wolverines to a 13-1 record and the SLC title, was voted Player of the Year.
